Climate Change
The SWFL RESET Center has no greater aim than to help inspire cooperative local and bioregional efforts to address the causes and consequences of climate change.
Hurricanes are becoming more destructive and expensive. Heat, the deadliest type of extreme weather, is expected to exceed historical records by 9°F by the end of the century. Warming waters are exacerbating blue-green algae blooms and red tides. Ocean acidification is killing coral reefs. Florida’s fauna and flora are being devastated. Sea level rise, saltwater intrusion, coastal flooding: the list goes on. According to a 2018 federal report, the product of thirteen different federal agencies, no state in the nation will suffer as great an economic impact from climate change as will Florida.
We need significant, effective climate action and we need it now. While we must all attend to our personal carbon footprints, this is not enough. The way we create energy, grow our food, and transport ourselves must change. The well-known flaw in the marketplace that is working against the health of Earth’s atmosphere must be fixed. The social and generational justice aspects of global warming must influence all actions that impact Earth’s climate.
We are in a climate crisis. Effective education and cooperative effort is the necessary response. The SWFL RESET Center dedicates itself to this cause.
